Incarcerated: Ancient Egyptian Cats

Add another group to the list.

It has come to my attention that many cats have been incarcerated...for thousands of years. They are the cat mummies from ancient Egypt.

Holy hell! What in tarnation did they do to this cat?!

Last I checked, the ancient Egyptians worshiped cats. I think that removing their internal organs, replacing them with sawdust, and wrapping their bodies in cloth is a fine way to pay homage to our species. Free them now!

This is not freedom

This is not justice

There are reports that many more may still lie entombed throughout Egypt, quietly suffering in their ornate packaging. Don't let the beauty of their appearance decieve you. Though they may look statuesque and stately on the outside, they are pretty freakin' nasty on the inside. We must join together if we are to see our brethren free from their artfully-crafted shackles. Liberty!

Liberated: Heathcliff

I'm happy to report that Heathcliff has already been liberated. His freedom gives us hope that others may follow (see last entry).

Heathcliff shortly after his liberation

Heathcliff started his career in 1973, entertaining audiences in newspapers five years before that impostor Garfield. I kid! I have nothing but love for all cats who are lucky enough to make it big. I like all big cats. But it is true that Heathcliff was successful before Garfield (Heathcliff also starred in his first cartoons before Garfield), though Garfield's fame has certainly eclipsed that of Heathcliff.

Heathcliff is a hell of an actor, from his beginnings in 1980 with The Heathcliff and Dingbat Show, through the ever-popular Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats series, and culminating in the feature-length film Heathcliff: the Movie. Ever the gentleman with the ladies, Heathcliff never let his fame and accomplishments go to his head, as one might expect.

Heathcliff is caring and generous with everyone...especially very attractive female-types

Heathcliff is an example to all of us cats, and freedom couldn't have gone to a better feline. Liberty!

Special thanks to www.toonopedia.com for much of the history in this entry.

Liberty for All

Liberty for all will not be achieved until all big cats are liberated. Free the big cats! Among those big cats that should be liberated:

The Tiger Cat

The Lion Cat

The Cougar Cat? Or maybe the Puma Cat...I don't really know much about big cats.

The Lazy Cat

The Cat in the Hat

The Thundercat

The Cat o' Nine Tails

Cat Stevens

I like big cats!
